Obituary

Donna Wallace (Bridges), of Helena, Montana, passed away peacefully in her home on May 27, 2025, surrounded by love, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 76 years old. Donna was born on September 16, 1948, in Wolf Point, Montana, to Clyde Bridges and Lois McCormick and was lovingly raised by her grandmother, Lillian Bridges. She attended Carroll College in Helena, where she studied Sociology and began a lifelong journey of service while working at Shodair Hospital. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Bill Wallace. They were married on January 2, 1970, at the Church of the Little Flower in Reno, Nevada. Donna's dream of motherhood was fulfilled in her children, Heidi, Peter, Sarah, and Dodge, who inherited her gifts of compassion, generosity, service, and strength. Professionally, Donna found purpose in supporting elders and caregivers. She served as the Director of the Senior Companion Program at the Rocky Mountain Development Council, where her empathy and leadership had a positive impact on the lives of many. In 1992, she founded The Heritage House Adult Respite Care, a sanctuary for families and elders alike, which she ran with love and intention until 2009. She then became a devoted practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu, a Japanese healing art that promotes balance and harmony of body, mind, and spirit. A longtime member of the Al-Anon community, Donna offered steady support, wisdom, and hope to those navigating their own healing paths. Donna's belief in the power of community was matched by a deep reverence for the natural world. She and Bill spent many joyful days tending the land—caretaking her family's ranch north of Wolf Point alongside her sister, Paula, and creating a haven of peace at the hand-built cabin they lovingly crafted together. There, among the trees she so meticulously cared for, Donna found serenity and renewal. Her beloved horse, Tír na nÓg, brought beauty, youth, and joy to those mountain days, embodying the timeless magic she held close. Donna's most treasured roles were those of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The times spent with Grandma walking Last Chance Gulch, hanging out at the Merc, riding the Tour Train, visiting the Carousel, getting ice cream at the Big Dipper, playing in the waves of the Oregon Coast, or walking to the Medicine Wheel are memories that will last many lifetimes. Donna is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Wallace; her children Heidi Wallace, Peter Wallace (Bree), Sarah Allen (Jaiger), and Dodge Wallace (Jenny); her grandchildren Paden, Azure, Jude, Lily, Cruz, Mila, Keaten, Shaiasia, Mckinlee, Anglia, Tyler Ann, and Walker; great-grandchildren Amaia, Gracelyn, and Cooper; her sister Paula Jensen, siblings Terri Baker and Danny Bridges, and cousin Jerry Chamberlain. Donna is preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, and her brother, Greg. A celebration of life is scheduled for June 17, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the Kleffner Banquet Hall (305 Highway 518, East Helena) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Montana Democrats (303 N. Ewing St. Helena, MT 59601) or Tizer Botanical Gardens and Arboretum (38 Tizer Lake Rd, Jefferson City, MT 59638). To honor Donna's memory, you might consider planting flowers, hiking a mountain, sitting beneath a tree, baking lemon bars, extending a hand to someone in need, or advocating for justice. Her radiant smile, generous heart, and unshakable belief in the good will continue to inspire all who knew her. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Montana Granite Industries and the Rummel family for their support and generosity. Thank you also to Stillwater Hospice for providing the comfort that allowed Donna to spend her final days at home with her loved ones. Donna cherished deep and lasting friendships, many of which spanned decades. You know who you are and each of you held a special place in her heart. Your love and unwavering presence were valued beyond words.
